2018
The Open Zine Archive began as a day-long event at Artefact Projects, curated by myself on behalf of Cross City Zine. Due to its popularity, the event was extended until June 23rd.
This event provided an opportunity for the public to explore Pete Ashton’s remarkable collection of zines, comics, and art books. Before embarking on a career in contemporary art, Pete Ashton regularly reviewed small press publications starting from the mid 1990’s. Alongside Jez Higgins, they led a discussion on Saturday, June 16th, offering insights into the creativity and sense of community within the zine scene throughout the 1990s.
The aim of the Open Zine Archive was to examine the evolution of zine-making during the 1990s and to explore its contemporary landscape in 2018.
